In summer 2019 I wrote a trade journal article for XOM Materials, a Berlin-based startup devoted to materials trading. I continue to provide copywriting services, ranging from proofreading to developing speaking points for industry events, as part of its Prague-based marketing and communications team.
From 2010-2011 I edited several, 200-plus page titles for this small Milan-based press including Motorcycles & Stars, 100 Most Beautiful Castles (I contributed the chapters on several Czech castles), 100 Asian Temples, and 100 Treasures of Italy. Editorial duties required coordinating an international team of writers, substantial editing, writing, and research.
From 2016-2017 I worked as an external translator, copywriter, and editor for Smart Press, a publishing house in Prague. I wrote press releases and translated book excerpts from a number of popular Czech-language cooking titles and other lifestyles-focused volumes, preparing English-language presentations for international book fairs.
From 2011-2014 I wrote multiple features and the majority of the FOB content for Global Blue’s seasonal guides to shopping in Prague. I worked with London-based editors to source photos, write captions, and develop engaging stories as well compile short texts for a number of visual fashion and design articles.
In 2016 I helped this American-owned company which gives foodie tours of popular European cities (Amsterdam, Rome, Paris) launch their Prague guide and tours services by contributing a number of city-guide posts about where to drink, dine, and go out in the Czech capital.
In 2016 I created, along with a videographer, the entire text script for a large-scale virtual tour or “showaround” of Hilton Prague geared toward its business conference clients. The hotel is widely considered the best in Central Europe for its conference and events offerings.
I do regular proofreading for this global non-profit organization which makes livable, and resilient cities, and is focused on human-centered architecture, design, and public space. Their annual festival Shared Cities is a platform for talks on urban development.
From 2014-2015 I did regular copywriting for the iconic Czech herbal spirit Becherovka, creating content for their Bohemian Bar Club brand, helping develop a voice that would speak to bartenders throughout the world who serve up craft Becher cocktails.
I’m a former staffer (2009-2012) for this Amsterdam-based publishing company which produces cookbooks, travel guides, art, and history titles for the international market. I continue to work as a remote editor helping localize, edit, and proofread titles as well as research and update texts. I’m told our new “100 Series” including 100 Most Beautiful Castles of which I wrote several Czech-focused chapters, killed it at the Frankfurt Book Fair this year!
I am also a journalist and from time to time contribute reported pieces to international and local media outlets. I have covered everything from food to design as well as reported health and medical pieces. My most recent article was this 2018 profile on a Czech beer that tastes good to cancer patients.
My day job! I have worked with Expats.cz since 2008 first as a freelancer and then as a staffer from 2012. My title is editor but I pitch in all across our content team, writing daily news content as well covering culture and lifestyle in Prague. A new role is working with sponsors to create partner content. Recent cooperation includes: Doctors without Borders, Galard, and Volvo.
Starting in 2015, I was commissioned to write branded content, typically focused on seasonal activities in Prague on behalf of the grand Art Nouveau Hotel Paříž Praha for Luxury Report magazine. My work has branched out to video scripts. For literature enthusiasts this hotel was featured in Czech author Bohumil Hrabal’s novel I Served the King of England.
From 2012–2016 I wrote the ARTĚL Style blog a companion to the award-winning guide book Prague ARTĚL Style (I edited the second-edition of that title as well). Working with the owner of this internationally acclaimed brand to develop a visually driven window onto Czech culture, one that remained in sync with the guide, was one of my all-time favorite projects. I write and edit a bi-annual custom publication for Hotel Josef. “Ahoj” goes behind the scenes at this unique design hotel located in Prague’s city center, profiling the people and services (free Čezeta rides! Parisian bakery!) that make this brand so unique. I also write and update web copy for the hotel’s website and offer general copywriting support.SEE ISSUE
Newly revamped and rebranded Maximilian Hotel needed a consistent voice for its web site, blog, and promotional materials as well as help writing and editing wine lists, menus, press releases, and landing pages. Prior to the hotel’s relaunch on the Czech market, I was responsible for writing its print brochures and web copy. SEE WEBSITE
